Commemorative Coin + Packaging
Steve Irwin
This personal project consists of packaging and a prototype coin to celebrate the outstanding achievements of an individual. The coin commemorates an individual that made a significant contribution that impacted our lives on a global scale.
I chose to commemorate Steven Robert Irwin, who was was an Australian zookeeper, television personality, wildlife expert, environmentalist and conservationist. He inspired many people to appreciate animals and the world we live in through our television screens, including his efforts to create foundations that focus on rehabilitation and habitat protection. His show "The Crocodile Hunter" was educational and helped many viewers appreciate our biodiverse planet. Irwin’s message of protecting the wild world around us is extremely important, especially current with climate change concerns and loss of habitat due to human influence.

Objective
My goal for this project was to bring more awareness to wildlife and habitat conservation through the life and legacy of Steve Irwin. On the packaging, I have included information about the Australia Zoo and Wildlife Warriors Worldwide; two organizations the Irwin family founded to bring to the foreground the necessity to respect and protect our environment and its inhabitants. Though Steve Irwin tragically passed away, individuals can still donate and visit these wonderful places he founded and continue to learn about his message and concerns.
I know many people grew up watching The Crocodile Hunter and they can appreciate the enthusiasm and knowledge Steve offered to us as young, impressionable children. The iconic image of Steve stalking a crocodile, that I have incorporated into the coin design, is a great memory and symbol of his life’s work.
